Air India FC Hit ONGC FC For A Big Six

Holders Air India played like true champions and soared to an emphatic 6-0 win against a lacklustre ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) in a lop-sided Elite Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2015-2016, and played at the Cooperage ground on Wednesday.
Air India made a perfect take-off and within the opening 10 minutes had taken a commanding 3-0 lead with Aaron D’Costa scoring the first goal to open the floodgates. Two minutes later Sunny Thakur doubled the lead before Raynier Fernandes hit the target for the third goal in the ninth minute.

31 times champions West Bengal has named their 20 men squad for 68th Santosh Trophy 2014. Calcutta Premier Division club Aryan’s young forward Kartick Kisku will lead Bengal in the competition. West Bengal will play their first match of zonal round on 27th January against Chattisgarh at Sikkim.

In the third group stage match between Churchill Brother SC and Pune FC ended in dramatically way at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Cochin. Former I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC defeats Pune FC 3-2 to qualify for semifinals of 2014 Federation Cup.
The Goan's Red Machine proved to strong for Maharashtra's Red Lizard. With the kick-off whistle, Pune FC started to attack on Churchill Brothers. Wasting no time Pune FC forward, Riga Mustapha dribbles the ball into the opponents penalty box and shot the ball from there but it went quite high. A few seconds later Churchill player took the ball in to the Pune FC box, but the defenders defended well and the ball went out, awarding Churchill Brothers a corner.

Churchill Brothers failed to score from the corner. 5 minutes later, grounded shot of Pune FC's Doha went out. Around six minutes and some seconds, Churchill Brothers Egyptian recruit Abdelhamid Shabana was foul outside the penalty box on the right wing. Churchill were awarded with a free kick outside the box. Loose pass by Shabana was cleared by Pune FC defense and the ball went to Churchill player, from there he passed it to Shabana at the same place where he was fouled. Dribbling the ball and tackling a player, Shabana crosses the ball from the penalty box to Anthony Wolfe, who with his right leg chipped the ball into the nets.

A few minutes later, Pune FC's Riga was fouled and the team was awarded with a free kick just outside the box. Defender Calum Agnus took the target shot, but went out for a corner after touching Churchill player. The corner shot was very easily handled by Churchill defense and again got an opportunity missed by Pune FC.

After a few attacks created by Pune FC, finally they got a chance to score at 19th minute when James Mayer passed the ball to left winger Anthony D'souza who kicked the ball with full power and the ball was rebounded backside after hitting Goalkeepers hands and on the right wing Gabriel Fernandez came sliding and chipped the ball into the nets in no time letting goalkeeper Lalit Thapa to settle down and save the goal.

 A few minutes later Pune FC again got a chance to score, but the Churchill defense cleared them. Later Churchill's Anthony Wolfe fouled Pune's Dohou and dribbled to ball and passed the ball to Leeny on the right wing. Lenny took the ball into the penalty box and kicked the ball into the nets.

By the half time, Churchill Brother SC were leading by 2 goals. After the 2nd half started, Gabriel Fernandez again netted the ball making the score 2-2 by scoring on 52 minutes. Later, around 73 minutes, Churchill forward scored again and made Churchill Brothers SC lead game 3-2 till full time.

Pune FC created many chances but failed to convert them into the goals. On the other hand, Churchill Brother played loose pass, but still managed to win the game with strong defense and forwards.

Churchill Brothers have qualified for the semifinals of 2014 Federation Cup.

Airtel I-League club Dempo SC signs Lebanon International Akram Moghrabi for 6 months.

The 28 year old forward has represented the Lebanon national football team 22 times and have scored 4 goals. He is one of the best players in his country.

Akram has represented former I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC also. He played 18 I-League matches where he scored 10 goals. He even scored a hattrick against ONGC FC. On 4 January 2013 he scored a brace as Churchill Brothers drubbed Shillong Lajong F.C. 6-0 at Duler Stadium in Mapusa.

Akram was one of the 22 players who were involved in Lebanese match fixing scandal. After leaving Churchill Brothers SC, when he returned to Lebanon he was banned by Lebanon football federation. Akram was also fined Rs 1,20,000/- for match fixing.

The ban on Akram have been uplifted and he is coming back in India to represent goan club Dempo SC.

Akram also represented Lebanese Nejmeh SC, where he scored 85 goals from 159 matches.

Akram Moghrabi is expected to arrive Panjim on 10 January.

The India's 121 year old IFA Shield Cup is set to come back with their 118th edition , schedule to start from 29 January 2013. 

An eight teams affair cup has confirmed 5 teams, schedule to play next month. Bengal's East Bengal FC , Mohun Bagan AC , Mohammedan S.C and United SC are the confirmed teams to play in the cup. Shillong Lajong FC has also confirmed their participation in the cup adding north east flavor.

Airtel I-League current 1st ranking team Bengaluru FC and Goa's Dempo SC and former I-League champions Churchill Brothers SC are also invited but have not yet confirmed their participation.

To add foreign tadka in the cup, two teams from England and one each from Egypt and Korea are also invited. The first team to confirm their participation will get the IFA Shield slot.

“We have had discussions with two teams from England and one each from Egypt and South Korea. It goes without saying that we would like two overseas teams to participate in the competition. However, we’re confident that at least one of them will definitely be seen this season,” says IFA vice-president Krishnendu Banerjee.

Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa was the attraction last season. United SC were crowned IFA Shield Cup champions last season defeating East Bengal FC by 1 goal.

Churchill Brother SC , former Indian League champions sign Costa Rica International and Deportivo Saprissa star Cristian Lagos.

The 29 year old Striker have represented Costa Rica in 2 World Qualifiers matches and have scored 1 goal.
He even represented Costa Rican Giants Deportivo Saprissa in Top division.
